I usually refrain from writing reviews, but I feel this is an underrated anime, which doesn’t get the amount of publicity that it should. Today was my birthday and I happened to receive this DVD collection from one of my friends. It is also been a while since I watched this anime, so it is nice to finally be able to watch it again. As for this review, I’ll try to remember certain aspects of the anime worth mentioning.

Anime Review- Nodame Cantabile
April 23, 2010
A slice of life, romantic comedy at heart…but this series does so much more than what other series in this genre strive to be. An immensely popular series in Japan, this music anime is a must watch for everyone, even those uninterested in this genre or musical animes. Read the rest of this entry ?

Anime Review- Spice and Wolf
April 20, 2010
When I first came across this anime, I didn’t really think that a story set on a traveling merchant and a ‘wolf girl’ would be anywhere near interesting. But after reading comments and reviews of what people had to say about it, I gave it a go. When i started watching, it was true there is a ton of dialog you have to deal with with not much action. But i never really once thought of it as boring throughout the entire season. The two protagonists always seem to have a interesting conversation. Read the rest of this entry ?

Anime Review- Seitokai no Ichizon
April 8, 2010
Parody and comedy are a staple genre in the anime world and sometimes can be hit or miss. This is because to truly understand parody you have enough experience with the things that are being parodied. As a foreigner to Japan and the majority of its culture, a great deal of this goes over my head as it would a foreigner trying to understand some of the humor from my own country. All of that being said some things are universally funny in comedy and that brings us to Seitokai no Ichizon, an anime that forgets to deliver the most important element a comedy must have… actual comedy. Anime Review: Da Capo
April 1, 2010
Okay, so it’s one of the most popular harem titles in japan, probably only second to KEY’s big hits. It’s even tiring to try to track the amount of side stories and sequels and doujin productions for this huge title.
But surprisingly despite all the hype this series gains, it totally killed all my expectations. Read the rest of this entry ?

Anime Review: Zero no Mono
March 10, 2010WARNING: THIS IS A HENTAI!
Basically, a guy with no name who attends college is obsessed with sex. He bumps into a preppy girl on the way home and winds up inside her apartment, when — what else? — sexy times commences. Only it’s more kinky sexy times than anything else. And did I mention his snazzy pick up line? Throwing a jar full of semen at her. Nice. Between that and the ending which is all kinds of messed up, it warrants a strange review. Story brings nothing original to the table, but it’s not completely devoid of ideas. Anime Review- Amaenaide yo!
February 19, 2010
So the best way to describe this anime would be…Buddhism turned extreme (in an erotic way). What happens when you put a monk and a bunch of nuns together in a temple? Performing exorcism all day and night? Not really … performing perverted, ecchi stuff all day and night? O yeah! Amaenaide yo! is an anime that can easily get faithful Buddhists ticked and non believers wonder “what the heck” is Buddhism. While this is only half of the story (yes season2), it does serve its purpose quite well as a building block to the sequel. Read the rest of this entry ?

Anime Review- Prism Ark
February 15, 2010The true score I give this anime would have to be incomplete. Plane and simple. I don’t say this often, but this should have been a 24 to 26 episode anime. In terms of stylization, plot, characters and animation, all of it was top notch with the makings of something great, but the fact of the matter is that this anime got throw together in a hurry, didn’t close up more than half of it’s plot lines, leaving them wide open, and simply left the viewer stuck in drive. When I finished, I honestly thought there was a Season 2 somewhere. When I realized there wasn’t and there wasn’t any news about a second season either (but their might be soon… who knows.) I became stunned, because that’s how open the last episode is. Read the rest of this entry ?

Anime Review- Umineko no Naku Koro ni
February 9, 2010
In my own perspective, “Umineko no Naku Koro ni” is a very entertaining and enjoyable masterpiece. It’s just sad that it has been quite underrated because of its comparison to Higurashi and that the Visual Novel was still a lot better. First of all, don’t go thinking it would be close to Higurashi ‘coz its plot is a lot different though similar. Higurashi’s main point is horror while Umineko is more of a thriller or rather something like a mind battle like “Death Note” and even includes witches and magic. For me, this is one of the most unpredictable anime I’ve ever watched and does not deserve being underrated. It’s a series that would actually even make you want to rewatch the whole series after completing it.

Anime Review- Afro Samurai: Resurrection
January 27, 2010
When i first saw Afro Samurai back in 2008 I was amazed, to be honest I didn’t think a concept like this would work out in the way it did. I mean here you have a black samurai, in an anime, with hip-hop music, unless we’re talking Samurai Champloo this shouldn’t work. But I really liked Afro Samurai, I thought it was sick and it only increased my respect for Samuel L. Jackson, so when I found out that there was going to be a sequel to the series I was over the moon… However little did I know that this sequel would end up like this.
