The first episode of Aoi Bungaku Series was released about an hour ago. So far this anime has indeed intruged me. The characters are interesting. The drawings are fair. I do believe though that I found this anime most interesting because it is mostly from the idea that this anime is an animated adaptation of six classical Japanese literature pieces.

Including No Longer Human (Ningen Shikaku) and Run, Melos (Hashire, Melos) by Osamu Dazai, Kokoro by Natsume Souseki, Hell Screen (Jigoku Hen) and The Spider’s Thread (Kumo no Ito) by Ryunosuke Akutagawa and In the Forest, Under Cherries in Full Bloom (Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita) by Ango Sakaguchi.

The first episode is basically about Youzou and what he is feeling. He gets chased by gang members, remembers his past family, sleeps with his lover and wants to become an amazing artist. The thing about this episode that bothers me is the fact that there are so many ringing bells throughout the episode… what the heck is that a symbol for…

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

The end of the episode is the most strange. Youzou throws his lover off the side of a cliff into the ocean of waves and sharp rocks. Now of course the river lights up as if it was symbolizing her going into hell.. but It in some ways makes absolutely no sense! However strange this anime may be.. Its exciting!! I am looking forward to the next episode and perhaps I shall read those original six literature pieces.
